From a reader

From a reader in South Africa comes a defence of post-vintage cars. He has had his MG TC for 53 years. In 1949 TC/7217 cost £470.10 shillings, and apart from a water thermometer and a Derrington steering wheel, it is original. Other than routine servicing, it has been notably reliable. It was repainted 20 years ago, and by 1949 had done 156,000 miles. For a time it was given a Shorrocks supercharger but this alarmed the brakes. Used for speed trials and raced at Kyalami, it continues to be the pride of a stable containing also a Kawasaki 550, a Caterham 7, a modified Mini and a Dino.
