Formula 5000 will return to Ireland’s Mondello Park this summer and will revive the Dublin Grand Prix. The Historic Sports Car Club will run the meeting on 15-16 August, two weeks before the Oulton Park Gold Cup, with the XL Aurora Trophy series taking top billing. Mondello was a popular venue for the Rothmans F5000 Championship in period, hosting races between 1969-74. David Hobbs, Trevor Taylor, Frank Gardner, Brian Redman, Keith Holland and Bob Evans were all winners at the track. HSCC chairman and F5000 racer Frank Lyons is expecting a bumper entry. “We already have 16 cars confirmed, including four from Australia, with more to follow. It will form a nice double-header with the Gold Cup.” Other HSCC classes expected on the bill include Classic Clubmans and Formula Ford.
