Auto-Union error

Sir,

Just for the record, Chris Nixon has a couple of errors in his works about the C-Type Auto Union I suspect the most obvious has already come home to roost from a host of angry Latvians! Riga is in Latvia and believe you me they are very sensitive about their national identity, post-USSR!

I spoke with Mr Edvins Liepins, the Director of the Riga Motor Museum, in July 1995, when he told me that the C-type did belong to the Museum, although previously ‘privately’ owned.

Once stored in pieces in various places, it had been re-assembled in Riga and was on display as a nonrunner for more than ten years. At the end of 1994 it went back to Ingoldstadt for ‘restoration’. At that time Mr Liepins was expecting the car back in Riga by spring 1997. It would now appear that the Museum had an offer it couldn’t refuse.

I am yours etc,
