Ferraris at Le Mans

Enzo Ferrari’s V12 orchestra returned to Le Mans for the Shell Historic Ferrari Maserati Challenge support race to this year’s 24-hour classic.

David Franklin won the Peter Auto event in the 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ which finished fifth and sixth at La Sarthe in 1972 and ’73 respectively. The biggest cheer, though, was for David Piper, who finished second in the 250/2751M he raced to seventh with Dickie Attwood in ’68. Burkhard von Schenk’s Maserati 300S won the drum-braked section of the retro event, pursued by Carlos Monteverde’s Ferrari Testa Rossa. MP
