CLASS I RECORDS
On October. 16th, F. Lehder captured four Class 1 (351-500 c.(‘.) records on the Ingolstadt-Mnnich autobahn. These are the f.s. kilometre, mile, 3-kilometre and 10-kilometre records, which his supercharged special with two-cylinder N.S.D. engine set to 163.1, 138.9. 160.2 and 155.7 m.p.h., respectively. The first three records are Al) improvement, of 8.3, 4.7 and 9.7 m.p.h.. respectively, over “Goldie” Gardner’s 1949 figures, while the 10kilometre record was held by Lurani’s Nibbio at 102.5 m.p.h. The ” fastestever ” by a 500-c.c. car has special significance in these days of Formula III activity and a history of the Class I flying kilometre record follows
