The Marcel Renault Memorial

Sir,

I notice in the September Motor Sport your query about the Marcel Renault Memorial in the piece on Owen John. Certainly it was still there in 1988, in a rather scruffy lay-by on the west side of the N10 between Poitiers and Ruffec. The lay-by has been created by the road having been straightened out, although it is still quite a distinct bend. It is easy to see how Renault came to grief as the road prior to it is straight and undulating, and if the lay-by represents the original curve then it would have been a slow corner on what is otherwise a very fast stretch of road.
