Thanks, Frank

Sir,

We should thank Frank Williams for keeping F1 alive by eschewing conformity and complacency. History shows that Damon is not the first driver he has groomed for stardom and then released to enbable a higher challenge to be pursued. Damon will give his new team a lift, and with his experience of test driving and his skill at setting up a car will achieve more for them that Schumacher has achieved with Ferrari. Emergent talent steps into Damon’s shoes. The only regret of the fans — and perhaps the sponsors — is that his replacement is not British.
