Why the furore over Indy finish?

The unusual finish to the Indianapolis Grand Prix is still causing comment. I can see nothing unduly wrong in it.

If Barrichello and Schumacher closed up to come over the finish-line absolutely together, fine for Ferrari.

If Barrichello decided to give a prod to the power at the very last moment, did it matter? Modem timing to 0.001sec could cope. After all, there have been dead heats and ‘half-a-wheel’ decisions in racing’s past, at Brooklands for example.

It will be interesting to see what results the ploy of the two Ferrari drivers produces, but surely there should not be criticism.

Or have I missed something?
