Forgotten GT40 run

Sir, I was delighted to read the article comparing the ‘old’ Ford GT40 and the ‘new’ GT in the October issue, but I’d like to point out that Jackie Oliver had another previous drive with a GT40 that he did not mention in your magazine.

He only recalled his outing with Terry Drury, which is a shame because he also co-drove the Dawnay Racing Team-run GT40 with Mike Salmon at the Spa 1000Km of 1967. So far as I can recall the car came in eighth, first of the private entries after various ‘works’ Fords, Mirages, Ferraris et al. I had the pleasure of looking after this car. Its chassis number was GT40P 1026, another of the ex-Essex Wire Corporation cars from the previous year. The last I heard it was in America, owned by Bobby Rahal.

I’m not sure about the new appearance of the magazine but, as I still look forward to the new issue every month, it must be good.

Keep up the excellent standard.
