NEW LIGHT ‘PLANE RECORD.
Remarkable Flight by French Pilot.
THE light ‘plane record for long-distance non-stop. flights, which was previously held by Captain Hans Wirth with a Klemm-Daimler monoplane,. was broken last month by the French pilot Marcel Lalouette, who used a Farman F.231 machine in a noteworthy flight totalling 1,687 miles, in. a straight line. Wirth’s record was made in October, 1928, when he flew, with Miss Naumann as a passenger, from Boblingen, Germany, to Miesch-Kance, Poland, a trip of 815 miles. *
M. Lalouette was accompanied by M. Jean de Permangle, who is the owner of the ‘plane and a very keen sporting pilot. The two men left Istres, France, on 12th January and, twenty-two hours later, they landed at Villa Cisneros, French West Africa.
Their machine is a low-wing monoplane, of cantilever construction, and particularly clean lines. The engine. is a four-cylinder in-line aircooled Renault of 100 h.p.
