Jim Clark Room

Sir,
I have just read your article on the Jim Clark Room and it brought to mind an incident earlier this year. A party of American walkers and bird watchers were visiting St Abbs nature reserve and stopped for a rest in St Abbs village. Whilst showing some of them around the lifeboat shed I asked one woman where she was from, “Indianapolis — you ever heard of it?” “Of course, the 500 mile race”. “And your Jimmy Clark won it”, was her instant reply. I asked her if she had been to the Museum as I thought they had a special display of the 500-mile photos etc. She did not know of the room and was very disappointed to learn it was only 15 minutes away when the group’s tight schedule would prevent her visit to it.

Surely it is not beyond the wit of the local cultural Tourist Board to write a press release annually to organisers and media of the famous Grand Prix and other triumphs of Jim Clark ie Indianapolis reminding them of his race victories and the location etc, of the Memorial Room.
