Pick an Ickx

Sir,

I recently finished reading through your feature on ‘100 Greatest Drives’, and I have to say I agree with most of your choices.

But there was one drive I expected to see quite high, possibly in the top 10 — that of Jacky Ickx at the non-championship 1974 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch. He drove a near perfect race, and his insanely brilliant move on Niki Lauda in the far superior Ferrari, on the outside at Paddock Hill Bend, in the pouring rain, was probably the best pass I have ever seen.
