BRDC honours for Wheldon, Button

Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon and BAR-Honda driver Jenson Button received Gold Stars from Sir Jackie Stewart at the BRDC Awards ceremony at Silverstone.

Wheldon earned his for his 2005 Indy win while Button was belatedly collecting his ’04 Star. Wheldon also collected the Earl Howe Trophy as highest-placed Brit at Indy.

Special Gold Stars were awarded to World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx and DTM champ Gary Paffett, who also received the Fairfield Trophy.

Lewis Hamilton‘s F3 Euroseries title brought him the Graham Hill Trophy for meritorious performance in single-seaters.

A sad moment came with the Innes Ireland Trophy for courage and sportsmanship, posthumously awarded to the 2001 World Rally champion Richard Burns.
