New diesel records

Subject to FIA recognition, new International Compression-Ignition Class-D records for the s.s. I-mile, 1-mile and kilometre and for the f.s. kilo, and mile have been set by motoring journalist Fritz Busch, driving his own car. Diesel Star, powered by a five-cylinder, turbo-charged Mercedes-Benz diesel engine. The highest speed recorded is quoted as 159.81 m.p.h. and it seems that Patsy Burt’s records in this class with a turbo-charged Mercedes-Benz 220D saloon, established at Elvington, have been substantially beaten. Busch used the VW test track at Wolfsburg.
