Early Webers

Sir,

In 1958 John Wyer gave a talk on the Aston Martin Racing story in which he said that during the winter of 1950/51 Astons became the first British manufacturer to fit Weber carburettors.

Earlier, in the summer of 1950, Lance Macklin took his DB2 (UMC 272) to the Weber factory in Bologna where they fitted three twin-choke Webers. Macklin then raced the car in the Coppa Inter-Europa at Monza, and then in the Targa Florio. So is this the first British car to be fitted with Webers? I would be most interested to know.
