A Hollywood superstar with his left foot in a cast, partnered by a driver still considered a rich amateur by some, in an outdated and outclassed Porsche, almost wins one of the biggest sportscar races in the world. Sounds like a great script for a film. The Sebring 12 Hours of 1970 had it all: superb entry, star drivers, epic drama — and Steve McQueen. If fate had dealt a different hand , he and Peter Revson would have pulled off a huge upset. Enter Mario Andretti, stage left. He wasn’t about to be upstaged by ‘some actor’.
