Wallace relives Formula Ford fun

Le Mans winner Andy Wallace returned to his roots during the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone by racing a classic Formula Ford 1600. Back in 1980, Wallace won the Pre-74 FF1600 title in a Hawke DL11, and a chance meeting with the Classic Formula Ford Register during July’s Silverstone Classic led to the offer of a race outing.

Wallace duly tackled the November event in a Crossle 25F and loved the experience despite not reaching the final. He said: “It was a great car, but it certainly didn’t have the type of downforce that I’ve got used to over the years since I last raced a Formula Ford!”
