Rare (?) A.C.s

Sir,

May I be permitted to add my comments to those of Mr. J. A. Wood in your June issue on the subject of the alleged rare A.C.

You will probably not be very surprised to learn that there are no fewer than twenty 2/4-seater A.C.s of the type advertised still in existence, in this country alone. It is hardly unique, therefore, on that score. Looking at the details of the twenty cars I find one is a Sovereign, thirteen are Royals and six Empire models. The car illustrated in your magazine is well known to the A.C.O.C. and it is undoubtedly an Empire. On this score also the claim made for it must also fail.

You may be interested to know that £595 was being asked the last time an inquiry was made, not so very long after a comparable specimen (admittedly a “Six”) was sold at the Sword Sale for £165.
