Brooklands Films

Sir,

You mention a fragment of a Flanagan and Allen film of the 1930s at Brooklands. This was called “A Fire Has Been Arranged”. I supplied five Bugattis for this and took them to the track with four other drivers at the agreed price of £19 per day for the lot. In those days this was good money and fortunately for us the weather proved dull for two days so that three days were needed to complete the shooting. Thus the amount came to £57.

Bud Flanagan asked me, during the waiting time, to take him on the track and I took him round the outer circuit a couple of times in a 2-litre T35. Also attending the film company were some Bentleys and an Aston Martin. I recall that there was some competition amongst my drivers to “see the other makes off”, but I was able to curb these racing tendencies at the request of the film director.
