1975 Spanish Grand Prix in pictures

WINNER OF THE prematurely terminated Spanish Grand Prix was Jochen Mass (opposite top), whose McLaren M23 had completed 29 of the prescribed 75 laps when the chequered flag came out. John Watson’s Surtees TS16 went well before stopping to change a tyre, the Ulsterman seen (centre left) sliding his car ahead of Jean-Pierre Jarier’s UOP Shadow DN5. The bottom two photographs on the opposite page show Vittorio Brambilla’s March 751 (left) which was finally classified fifth and Tony Brise in the older Williams-Cosworth who was finally classified seventh. Above, Jacky lckx can be seen during Friday’s practice session, the Belgian being one of only two competitors to try the circuit while the GPDA all argued about the guard rails. lckx is not a member of the GPDA, having resigned some years ago. Upper right, Ken Tyrrell can be seen helping to bolt together inadequately secured guard rail on Saturday morning, while (centre) Carlos Pace amuses the Brabham mechanics with a ride on their special “pit trolley”. Our lower picture on this page emphasises the spectacular nature of the fabulous Montjuich Park road circuit in Barcelona, Jarier’s Shadow leading Rolf Stommelen’s ill-fated Embassy Hill down one scenic section.
