The Maserati Club, the first of its kind in the world to be created for the marque, is 21 years old this year.
The current membership, worldwide, is over 300. A handful of weekend rallies and a popular Christmas dinner are held every year. This year, there will be a bonus event to celebrate 21 years of activity. This will coincide with the Coys Historic Racing Festival at Silverstone on July 24/25, where there will be a Maserati Club marquee, static displays and a concours. There will also be a club dinner at a nearby hotel on the Saturday night.
Anybody interested in joining the Maserati Club should contact membership secretary John Duggleby, 27 Western Gardens, London W5 3RS; T 091 993 2578.
It never looks quite right if you take your historic racing car to the circuit in a modern Iveco truck. Lately several period transporters have reappeared, notably Ferrari’s 1956 double-decker on a Fiat chassis, and the latest and even more evocative for British enthusiasts is the famous Ecurie Ecosse machine. Built in 1959 on a Commer chassis, this striking mobile workshop was the Scottish team’s most memorable symbol for many years. Now its unique profile will be seen again after a six-month rebuild by Lynx Motors which has restored it to fine working order. The transporter had survived pretty much intact and Lynx has kept the original specification, except that the workshop space has become a seating area.
Dick Skipworth, the transporter’s owner, hopes to have it at Le Mans, the BARC Thruxton 25th Anniversary meet on June 26/27, and the Coys Silverstone Historic Festival (July 24/25). Lynx will also use it most appropriately to carry its C- and D-types to various events. G C
