Identity crisis

Sir,

Above Nick Harley’s letter (Letters, May) concerning the Super Squalo, you publish a picture of car number 48 at Monaco in 1955, attributing it to Paul Frere.

Frere took over the Super Squalo at half-distance and is shown in his book On the Starting Grid, driving in overalls. On the other hand, Taruffi (who drove the Super Squalo for the first half at Monaco) is pictured in his book The Technique of Motor Racing driving a (different) Ferrari in a shirt and sleeveless jersey.

I think the picture shows Taruffi. What do you think?

Perhaps we can ask Paul when he and the Super Squalo appear at Silverstone in July at the Coys International Festival.

I am yours, Etc
