Lotus - sale or return?

David Hunt, the younger brother of the late 1976 World Champion James, continues to lay the foundations to bring the Team Lotus name back to Grand Prix racing, “sooner, rather than later.”

But Hunt, who bought the assets of the defunct team – winner of six World Championships between 1963 and 1978 – following its withdrawal in 1994, has admitted that any return will hinge on being able to buy one of the 12 existing outfits. To clear the decks, Team Lotus sold the remnants of its old stock at Wymondham last month. The ex-Johnny Herbert 107B car was snapped up for £36,000 by Eddie McLurg, who plans to race it in the BOSS series for 3.5-litre F1 cars.
