Ready, Fredy, gone!

Spaniard Jaquin Folch scored an emotional home victory when the FIA Thoroughbred Grand Prix Car season opened at Jarama. The local man’s Williams FW08 beat off the FW07 of Fredy Kumschick to record his first win in the historic Formula One series.

Soaking wet conditions at Spa two weeks later made little difference to Kumschick, who dominated Round Two while Folch was away on business. After the first race start was halted due to stranded cars at Eau Rouge, Kumschick blasted to a 49sec victory, going a huge 14sec clear on the first lap!

Steve Hartley (Arrows A6) and Mike Whatley (Ensign N175) diced hard for second, a contest that was only resolved when Whatley spun at La Source on the final lap. Eventually Whatley got out of his car and pushed it home in fifth place!
