HAS RACING CEASED TO BENEFIT THE UTILITY MOTORIST?

;reat interest has been .displayed in the article entitled ” Has Racing Ceased to Benefit the Utility Motorist ? ” which appeared in the January and Fetruary issues of MoToR SPORT. Consequently It is interesting to note that Fred ‘,T Dixon, writing under the heading of “Speed is Progress” in the March issue of ” Speed,” is directly opposed to sonic of the views held by our contributor, notably on the question of the relation of racing to the development of independent suspension and light alloy construction for utility cars. Carlo Brighenti’s interview with Commendatore Jaw), the Alfa-Romeo designer, published in”‘rue Motor” of March 2nd, throws

more light on this subject. J ano emphasises the importance of getting ready for racing ordinary production models suitable for normal motoring, for he maintains that the finest racing-car is the one which will become to-morrow’s touring-car. But he also considers that Grand Prix racing has served to perfect independent suspension, and braking.
