Sixth sense

Sir,

I am writing with regard to Mr GD Barnes’ letter in February’s MOTOR SPORT.

He stated that Jackie Stewart “was credited with third place” despite his retirement in the 1966 Indianapolis 500. In fact, wee Jackie was classified sixth. Still a good result, though.

Incidentally, the four drivers who have won the Indianapolis 500 and the World Championship (Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Mario Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi) all won at least one of their world titles driving for Team Lotus.
