I wish you had included Parnelli Jones’ epic drive to win the 1963 Indy 500 in your 100 Greatest Drives article. For 500 miles he had to drive flat-out in order to beat Jim Clark’s Lotus and win.
I know this race was controversial, that Jones passed cars under the yellow while Clark did not, and that officials overlooked Jones’ s leaking oil tank. Still, the fact remains, Parnelli made three pit-stops to Clark’s one, held the lead and won, while A J Foyt and Rodger Ward, both at the peak of their abilities, and both driving hard to win, finished behind Clark, in third and fourth.
