Pete King MBE

Obituary

Pete King, the one-time saxophone player who managed Ronnie Scott’s famous jazz club for almost 50 years, had a less well-known passion for motor racing. King, who has died aged 80, competed in a handful of European Touring Car Championship races in the 1970s and was persuaded by Brands Hatch boss John Webb to sponsor a series of production car races at the Kent circuit. He was also briefly involved in the management of Johnny Herbert.
