Speedometer service

Sir,

The speedometer in my Morris 1000 seized up and then proceeded to wreck its eccentric gear. I requested a replacement gear from Smiths and received a reply to the effect that no spare parts service exists for “calibrated” instruments and that I should buy a factory rebuilt unit.

I then discovered that G. & E. Ingle of Nottingham would recondition and recalibrate my speedo for 30s., or for £3 10s. (Smiths rebuild price I believe) would also fit a 1/10 recorder; this latter offer I considered to be excellent value for money.

It was posted on the 2nd March, Ingle’s received it on the 6th and posted it back on the 7th and it reached me today, the 13th, the G.P.O. not being able to break it or lose it.

At last I have a speedometer that tells me how far I have done and the actual speed I am going.
