Obituary - Peter Garnier

Peter Gamier, Editor of Autocar from 1968 to 1975 has died, aged 81. After joining The Autocar in 1950, he became its Sports Editor in 1955. As well as heading Autocar’s motorsport team, he took part in several sports and GT events as co-driver, notably to Stirling Moss and Jack Sears. He was appointed as Secretary of the GPDA between 1960 and 1967.

His writing style, fluid and literate, flowered in both his journalism and the five books he wrote.

Motoring journalism was preceded by education at Charterhouse and service in the Navy during WW2, in motor torpedo boats.

MOTOR SPORT sends its deepest sympathy to his wife, Patricia and son, Mark.
