Saab to star in Mille Miglia retro

Some 375 cars are expected to take part in the Mille Miglia retro on May 6-8, a regularity rally reliving the famous Italian road race.

The 2010 route will take in the famous Futa and Raticosa passes. The first cars will start from Brescia on Thursday evening, with overnight halts in Bologna and Rome before the finish back at Brescia late on Saturday evening.

Among the field will be the CEOs of Saab and Spyker, marking a new relationship between the two companies. They will drive 1957 Saab 93s, celebrating the make’s first major international win with Erik Carlsson in the 1957 1000 Lakes Rally. The 93 also won its class in that year’s final Mille Miglia.

“Unique cars like the 93 are a key part of Saab’s heritage,” said Spyker’s Victor Muller. “I shall enjoy sharing in some of Saab’s history.”
