Goodwood Members’ Meeting, April 9-10

There is no historic race meeting quite like the Goodwood Members’ Meeting. This year will be the 79th edition of the popular event, which continues to provide plenty of entertainment on and off the track.

This year’s gathering will have the usual trophy races alongside activities in the paddock and, of course, demonstration runs from eras gone by.

A celebration of the Porsche Group C brigade will bring together over 15 Porsche 956 and 962s for the weekend while Formula 1’s old soundtrack will be out in full force.

F1 V10s will scream as 1990s- and 2000s-era powerhouses will be given a roaring showcase around the Goodwood Circuit. Williams, McLaren and more will be represented, with highlights including Damon Hill’s championship-winning FW18, the Benetton B193 with which Michael Schumacher scored his first F1 victory and Ayrton Senna’s final championship-winner: the V12-powered MP4/6.

Hopefully the weather will be more clement when Ayrton Senna’s MP4/6 takes to the track

A dream line up of Aston Martins will be up for auction courtesy of Bonhams, with lots varying from £20,000 up to an estimated £350,000 for a 1964 DB5. Gordon Murray Automotive will also be on the ground at Goodwood. GMA will be showing off the brand-new T.33 supercar for its first public appearance, following on from the global debut of the T.50 in 2021.

Then there are the numerous races taking place over the weekend. Motors from Edwardian times to the 1980s will be filling the grids and there’s the usual two-wheeled variety also. The Hailwood Trophy and Sheene Trophy motorcycle racing events will now take place across both days for the first time.

The Graham Hill, Gerry Marshall and Moss Trophy races are all fixtures on the schedule and are complemented by several other prize events across the two days.

It will all culminate in the final 20-minute Gerry Marshall finale to cap off the festivities and what is sure to be a thrilling weekend.

MotoGP – Grand Prix of the Americas
Circuit of the Americas, April 8-10

Bumps were the major concern of MotoGP riders last year when the series visited the Circuit of the Americas. They weren’t enough to knock master of COTA Marc Márquez off his game as he won in 2021, but renovation work has taken place since. Can anyone stop him this time?

British GT & GB3
Oulton Park, April 15-18

Easter Bank Holiday weekend is set to stage the first round of the British GT season having returned to its usual slot after two Covid-impacted years. GB3 single-seater racing will be on the support bill for one of the first major UK race weekends of 2022.

NASCAR – Dirt Race
Bristol Motor Speedway, April 17

NASCAR’s out-of-the-box thinking in recent years has resulted in several entertaining races, not least the Dirt Race at Bristol, Tennessee, which returns for a second season. Joey Logano was the victor in ’21 but Hendrick is the team to beat.

WRC – Croatia Rally
Zagreb, April 21-24

Round three of the 2022 World Rally Championship season takes the series back to Croatia and Zagreb. One hundred and eighty miles of Tarmac await but neither Sébastiens Ogier or Loeb will be competing. The window of opportunity is open for someone to stamp their authority on the season.

F1 – Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
Imola, April 22-24

After signing a new agreement to keep Formula 1 racing there until 2025, Imola hosts round four of the 2022 season. The new car designs should make following other racers easier and could lead to another intriguing encounter around the famed circuit.
