BEST known for their flexible thin rim steering wheels, P. Ashby & Co have this year produced a fresh crop of accessories of outstanding interest to sports car owners.

First comes a quick release filter cap. Moving the lever from left to right forces it up a quick thread, which releases its pressure from the cap, and its further movement pushes back the cap by bearing on a bridge which forms part of the casting. A cork washer in the lid makes a perfect seal, and the filter caps may be used for pressure tanks. The price varies from 18/to 21/-, according to size. A gear control made in various patterns

is suitable for Morris and Hornets, and M.G. Midgets up to 1932 and other types are being prepared. An aluminium casting bored and shaped to suit the gear-box is fitted easily, and the rigid lever comes under the left hand and has a definite and visible gate. All types cost 59/6. Many cars fitted with Rudge-Whitworth racing auto wheels are not provided with a proper hammer for undoing them. The ” Brooklands ” copper clouter, which costs 14/6 and weighs 31 lbs., is a very suitable instrument for the purpose, and is approved by Rudge-Whitworth Ltd. The hammer is fitted with a well-made ribbed ash handle, and also with a leather

strap, which prevents the hammer from flying from one’s grip in the flurry of a race.

Another accessory which would be appreciated by the wretched mechanic is the Brooklands plug spanner, a short tubular affair fitted to a .steel rod either 13 or 16 inches long, the whole surmounted with a permanent cross-bar. With this instrument it is possible to remove a plug from almost any position, but for exceptional cases it has been found better to have the handle projecting at right angles to the box part, being in effect a box spanner with permanent tommy-bar. This instrument, which can be supplied for standard or 14 mm. plugs, costs 816.
