Silverstone in perspective

Sir

Dave Sherratt’s letter (October issue) on the facilities at Silverstone being no better than in the ’50s was a bit harsh given the improvements we have all seen made in the past 10 years to both the track and its facilities. The real question, I feel, was why proper facilities were not built in the new Village section for the opening of this area and the new grandstands in 2010. It is a poor state of affairs, but let’s not overstate it.

I am just back from Spa after another great race, but it remains the worst circuit in Europe on the Formula 1 calendar in respect of facilities, access and egress, etc. Add to this the ridiculous cost of a grandstand seat and it makes Silverstone look ‘state of the art’ and great value for money. Bernie Ecclestone should get the owner of this circuit and give him or her a good shake!

Silverstone has still got some work to do but, the Village section aside, it has improved greatly over the past few years.
