Lucas Successes

we have noted on many occasions this season, Joseph Lucas, Ltd. have supplied magnetos and electrical equipment to the majority of the leading racing drivers. Apart from providing equipment for Lt.-Col. “Goldie” Gardnet’s famous record-breaking M.G., Lucas products were used by the cars to finish 1st, 2nd and 4th in the I.O.M. International Empire Trophy Race. Now comes the news that John Cobb’s 400-m.p.h. Railton-Mobil-Special used Lucas magnetos for its Napier “Lion” engines and other items of Lucas manufacture. Raymond Mays, 1947 British Hill-Climb Champion, is another driver of world repute who relies on Lucas. It gives us great pleasure to emphasise the part Lucas electrical equipment is playing in present-day racing, for it shows that Britain is now able to hold her own in a field that was once rather heavily invaded by foreign manufacturers — racing drivers cannot always afford to be patriotic, for they must have the best they can get. So far as ignition and electrics are concerned, Lucas is obviously giving our leading drivers what they require.
