The things they say . . .

“Three Humbers were sold at the recent Sotheby Beaulieu auction—a 1926 9/20 Humber tourer, a 1925 15/40 tourer and the 1910 car from the Argentine. These cars fetched £260, £240 and £850, respectively, none of them unreasonable prices. The 9/20 and 15/40 were bought by ‘ A. Essex,’ which appears to be the pseudonym of C. J. Bendall, the car dealer of Hitchin, who is offering them for sale at £450 and 4425, respectively. Not a bad way to make a cool £375! . .. the 9/20 is in good shape but has a non-original tubular front axle with spacers added to get the correct track, and the 15/40 is complete but in need of a certain amount of restoration.”—From the July/August issue of the Humber Register magazine.

“The antithesis of Mr. Ferrari, this man is personable and efficient. He and his cars are already giving Ferrari fits in the market place—with no participation in racing.”—Road & Track writing about Feruccio Latnborghini.

“The supercharged front-drive car advertised in Motor Sport this month for £750 is the car largely restored by David Mitson in Dulwich. He bought it for £35 in 1961 and sold it last year to Bendall for about £150 when restoration was all but complete!”—The Alvis Owner Bulletin commenting on rising prices.
