WHY THE E-TYPE ONE-MODEL SERIES CAN LIVE ON

THIS YEAR IS, OF COURSE, THE year of the E-type Jag ua r, a point the Silverstone organisers could hardly have made more clear by puffing over 800 examples of Britain’s most famous sports car on track in a Guinness World Record bid. Apparently there were over 1000 on the premises.

Amazingly there were also 52 examples on the grid for the E-type race. I didn’t know there were that many racing Es in the world and last year there may not have been. Clearly business has been booming for those who can turn a common or garden E into a whizz-bang lightweight racer but it does beg the question of what all these newly-created race cars are going to do next year? Maybe there are enough to continue a one-model race series? Were used to such things in modern racing, but in the historic world it would be a serious novelty.
