Happiness is a pile of old car magazines. So says RICHARD HESELTINE, back from a trip to Portland, Oregon, where in a junk store he found a stash of 1950s Car Craft mags. The Editor has been warned to fend off story pitches about Studebaker Starlites. Richard needs to write them as he has his eye on an Alfa Junior Zagato… In a month of record-breaking, our Formula 1 newshound ADAM COOPER has achieved a personal milestone of his own his trip to the Bahrain GP took his tally to 300 Grands Prix in a row without missing one. That’s an impressive run. The trouble is, the way Mr E is adding races the next 100 will fly by. (Iceland could do with a boost, Bernie. Does Pirelli do a snow tyre?)

PAUL LAWRENCE, on the other hand, has lost count of the events he’s offended. That’s because our historic reporter loves the sheer diversity of British historic motor sport. From Welsh forests to Brand Hatch to winding Isle of Man lanes, Paul will be there with pen and camera to record races, rallies, hillclimbs, sprints, and mud-bogged classic trials. Basically, he’ll offend anything that involves petrol and a stopwatch. Wonder when the next lawnmower race is?

Photographing a car standing still sounds simpler than snapping one at 120mph. Not true, though. When we asked MATT HOWELL to capture our Cobra cover car he had to use some ingenuity to highlight its beautiful curves, and between them he and Art Editor Cogman devised a truly brilliant idea. Study the cover and the feature shots and see if you can figure it out then look on the website or on your iPad edition (because you have subscribed, haven’t you?) for a video of what they did. Bet you were wrong.
