Remembering David Jefferies

Sir,

An excellent article on Stuart Graham. I can’t imagine an individual progressing in the sport in such a simplistic manner nowadays. Just a small correction — he wasn’t the only TT-winning son of a TT winner.

That accolade also applies to the late David Jefferies, nine times winner at the TT, who was tragically killed at Crosby in 2003 in practice while riding for the TAS Suzuki Team. His father, Tony Jefferies, three times winner of the TT but confined to a wheelchair after a racing accident, continues to run a successful BMW motorcycle dealership in his native Shipley, Yorkshire. As if that wasn’t enough, Tony’s father Alan was also successful in motorcycle racing, though not at the TT. Tony’s brother Nick was also a regular TT winner.
