Ron Flockhart and team change the plugs on his ERA on his way to the 1952 Ulster Trophy

Hugh Langrishe’s personal pictures of his time with Rob Flockhart in the 1950s reveal a very different era. Here Flockhart and his team stop for a rapid plug change as they rush his ERA along public roads from Belfast to the Dundrod circuit for a last-minute arrival on the 1952 Ulster Trophy grid. A cloth over the radiator retains heat. This 10-mile thrash would be Flockhart’s only warm-up.
