Ireland's best head to Belfast

The Belfast City open+direct Millennium Festival at Stormont Castle on Monday 28 August is certain to be Northern Ireland’s biggest-ever motorsport occasion.

The Ulster Cancer Foundation event will feature the following: Kenny Acheson in a 1983 RAM; Derek Daly in a Williams FW08; David Kennedy in a Wolf WR2; Martin Donnelly in a Lotus 79; John Watson in a Joitlan 191 and 199; Eddie Irvine in alaguar D-type. Sir Stirling Moss will pilot a Jaguar C-type and Rick Hall a BRM V16. Johnny Thomas brings his 1902 Gordon Bennett Napier from Wales, and Britain’s oldest active racing driver, 89-year-old Tom Delaney, is taking the Lea-Francis Hyper in which Kaye Don won the first TT at Ards, in ’28.

Rally heroes present will include An Vatanen and Jimmy McRae in Ford Escort Mk2 and Vauxhall Chevette HSR respectively, plus Ronnie Adams and Paddy Hopkirk. Bertie Fisher and Austin McHak will be in Subaru and Toyota WRC cars. Giacomo Agostini and local Grand Prix star Jeremy McWilliams head the motorcycle racers paying tribute to Joey Dunlop. BAR, Ferrari, Jaguar, McLaren and Williams Formula One showcars are also booked, plus a large range of sideshows.
