The 2027 Formula 1 calendar has been announced, with ten sprint races planned for the 24-round calendar next season. Click to jump to the full schedule

Two circuits will be making a return: Portimao and Istanbul have been added to the line-up, while Barcelona and Zandvoort are dropped.

After pre-season testing on February 24-27 in Bahrain, the same Sakhir circuit is scheduled to host the first race of the season, along with a sprint race, despite continuing doubts over the safety of holding races in the Middle East. It’s still unknown whether F1 will host this year’s final two races in the region as planned.

If all goes to plan, it promises to be a hectic start to the season, with Saudi Arabia following the weekend after Bahrain. Then comes a triple header: Austalia, Japan and China hosting races on consecutive weekends.

The season follows a similar schedule to this year, but the sprints will bring a new look to several race weekends, not least Monaco where we’re likely to now see two processional races — but a double helping of thrilling qualifying.

Silverstone will once again host a sprint; the British Grand Prix maintaining its position in the first weekend of July, just after a return to Portimao for the first time since 2021.

Once again, the season will conclude with a trip through North and South America before concluding with a double-header in Qatar, then Abu Dhabi.

Will F1 race in the Middle East?

The 2026 calendar was published in June last year, but the issue that F1 faces with the 2027 season is the same one that’s still causing issues in 2026: the conflict in the Middle East between the US and Iran has already forced F1 to cancel Bahrain and Saudi Arabia from this year’s schedule, anbd is threatening this year’s Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix. Malaysia’s Sepang circuit will host a race this year on behalf of Bahrain, while Imola is on standby should the final Middle East races be impossible to hold.

Next year, F1 appears to have more solid contingencies. “We have different plans with different options ready in place that will accommodate the fact that we will keep, in any case, the target of 24 grands prix also for next year,” said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. What’s more, he added that a decision on the Middle East races won’t be made until the end of September – much later than the calendar is normally locked down.

It’s not yet known which circuits would replace the Middle East rounds if the Iranian conflict continues into next year, and makes holding the grands prix impossible.
