The Lotus 98T, chassis number 4, raced by Ayrton Senna in the last seven grands prix of the 1986 season will go to auction on August 25 during the Silverstone Historic Festival. The 1.5-litre Renault V6 turbo car, capable of producing more than 1000bhp, was demonstrated by Nigel Mansell during last year’s Silverstone event.
Said Bonham & Brooks MD Malcolm Barber: “This stunning car is not only to be offered in highly original condition, it is also the best documented modern-era Formula One car we have ever been privileged to offer.” As well as numerous spares, the car will be sold with every possible piece of paper about its history from Lotus and Renault
After the end of ’86, the car was sold to an American collector before returning to Britain to be maintained by Classic Team Lotus. Its best result was second in the Hungarian GP.
