The Champ Car World Series visited Cleveland’s still-operational Burke Lakefront Airport on the shores of Lake Erie from 1982 until the championship’s demise in 2007. Although an unattractive venue and unpopular with the drivers, its wide, bumpy runways allowed numerous lines to be taken into the corners, producing surprisingly good racing with plenty of overtaking.
