$17m Bugatti trio head Bonhams' The Quail Auction in Monterey
Bonhams’ 2025 Quail Auction showcased a stunning line-up of ultra-rare hypercars and bespoke masterpieces

Three ultra-limited edition Bugattis stole the show at The Quail Auction in 2025, as the modern hypercars sold for a combined total of $17m (£12.6m), representing the three most valuable sales at the event.
A rare Bugatti Divo was offered at public auction for the very first time and a fierce bidding war pushed the price to $8.55m (£6.34m). it was followed by two examples of the car it is based on — the Bugatti Chiron.
The most powerful model, the Chiron Super Sport sold for $4.46m (£3.29m), while a more dynamic variant, the Pur Sport, fetched $3.96m (£2.92m).
Making up the rest of the top five sales was a Pagani Huayra and one of only 10 V12 Intensa Emozione hypercars made by the German firm Apollo, which each sold for more than $3m (£2.2m).
These are the top five sale results from the The Quail Auction.
2020 Bugatti Divo
Sold for: $8.55m (£6.34m)
The clear star of Bonhams’ sale, this Bugatti Divo represented the first of the 40 models produced to ever cross a public auction block.
With fewer than 800 miles and previous display in the Petersen Museum’s “Hypercars: The Allure of the Extreme” exhibit, its exclusivity and design innovation lit up bidder interest.
The Divo is based on the Chiron but takes the formula further, with upgrades to enhance handling. Powered by the same 8-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine producing 1,479hp as in the Chiron, it accelerates from 0-62mph in just 2.4 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 236mph.
However, its primary focus is on lateral dynamics and track agility: thanks to bespoke suspension tuning, greater downforce (over 1,000kg), and a 35kg weight reduction compared to the Chiron, the Divo is a sharper, more focused machine for demanding drivers.
2021 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport
Sold for: $4.46m (£3.29m)
For some people, 1479bhp isn’t quite enough for their road-going hypercar, which is where the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport steps in with an additional 100bhp.
Around 80 of these top-speed-focused models were produced, each capable of a 304.77mph top speed, as recorded at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien test track. Customer cars, however, are limited to a mere 273mph to retain some semblance of safety.
In addition to the power upgrade, there were further modifications to boost the Chiron Super Sport’s top speed over the (also electronically limited) 261mph top speed of the standard car.
The Super Sport features a lengthened, more aerodynamic body (“longtail”) for stability at high velocity, as well as unique magnesium wheels, an optimised exhaust system, and advanced aero elements like a wider rear diffuser and stacked tailpipes.
This car matches its green and exposed carbon-fibre exterior with a dark green and grey leather interior, which has been lightly used, with fewer than 740 miles on the clock.
2021 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport
Sold for: $3.96m (£2.92m)
The 2021 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport takes the Chiron formula and tailors it for agility. Engineers reduced weight by 50kg compared to the standard Chiron, focusing on lighter wheels and extensive carbon-fiber use. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission features shorter ratios for even faster acceleration and responsiveness in lower gears.
That shaves 0.1sec of the standard Chiron’s 2.5sec 0-62mph acceleration time, using the same 8-litre quad-turbo W16 engine, producing 1,479bhp,
Though the top speed is limited to 217mph (lower than the standard Chiron), that’s by choice, not engineering constraint; the focus is on dynamic driving.
Ordered by a customer in Miami, this car is very much specified for the West coast, with white paintwork and a red interior which has had little chance to be bleached by the sun in its 1900 miles of running.
2022 Apollo Intensa Emozione “Ocean Dragon”
Sold for: $3.44m (£3.29m)
The German engineering firm formerly known as Gumpert produced this ultra-rare Apollo IE hypercar, with only 10 units produced worldwide.
This “Ocean Dragon” model is an even more exclusive one-off configuration, featuring a bespoke, ocean-themed colour palette, intricate airbrushed details, and custom graphics woven into its carbon-fibre bodywork
Underneath the spectacular looks, the Apollo IE is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.3-litre V12 developed with Italian firm Autotecnica Motori, producing a 770bhp. The absence of turbos or hybrid assistance makes the driving experience utterly raw – a throwback to the purest era of supercars, with a modern twist.
The $3.44m sale price does not include an interior: this was removed last year during a rebuild, which was paused. The sales pitch offered the owner the opportunity to order a new interior to their taste.
2017 Pagani Huayra Roadster
Sold for: $3.3m (£2.45m)
Only 100 Huayra Roadsters were produced, each tailored to its original buyer’s preferences. Every example is a one-off, with unique colours, material combinations, and details. The exclusivity makes each one a highly desirable collectible among global hypercar connoisseurs.
The Huayra Roadster is powered by a Mercedes-AMG 6.0L twin-turbo V12 producing around 754hp, paired with a seven-speed automated manual transmission.
Thanks to extensive use of carbon-titanium – a Pagani-patented composite that’s both lighter and stronger than carbon fibre alone – the roadster is lighter than the Huayra coupe, a rarity among convertibles.
The result: a 0-62mph sprint in around three seconds and a top speed exceeding 210mph.
