Thirteen-time Formula 1 grand prix winner David Coulthard will be racing in the forthcoming Goodwood Members’ Meeting, behind the wheel of a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing.

Coulthard will race in the Tony Gaze Trophy at this year’s 77th running of the event, which takes place at the Goodwood Motor Circuit on April 6 and 7.

The iconic and beautiful Gullwing will be familiar to Coulthard as he raced it in the Salvadori Cup at last year’s Members’ Meeting. In freezing conditions Coulthard qualified in 15th place in a 22-car field, though managed to rise to ninth position in the 20-minute race. Coulthard also completed demonstration laps in the car at the 2017 Members’ Meeting.

Coulthard has described the Mercedes 300SL as his “favourite car of all time”, though it will likely struggle to keep up with the late 1950s sports cars that will compete in the Tony Gaze Trophy race.

This is the latest attraction added to this year’s event, which also will include a NASCAR demonstration, several Le Mans legend drivers as well as 60 classic Minis taking part in the new-for-2019 Betty Richmond Trophy.

Only members of the Goodwood Road Racing Club (GRRC) will be able to enjoy the event as only they are able to buy tickets, and the livestream won’t be available to the public this year. Highlight clips and a selection of live races will still be publicly available online and on ITV4. However, joining the GRRC Fellowship (for £39) gives you access to the livestream and the ability to purchase tickets.
