Goodwood will introduce a rally sprint to its Members’ Meeting weekend in March, paying tribute to a golden era of rallying on a weekend of motor sporting celebration.

The new event will run on the Saturday, beginning in the evening and continuing on as night falls on a one-off route around the outside of the main circuit. It will also feature on the Sunday.

The circuit has been specifically planned to incorporate the access tunnel for a burst of noise before heading toward Woodcote corner and the start/finish straight. Cars will take to the route one at a time.

Set to be included in the line-up are Group 4 and Group B rally cars from the 1970s and 80s, with 25 star drivers also expected to take part in historic machinery.

1984 World Rally champion Stig Blomqvist and father-son duo of Jimmy and Alister McRae are already confirmed to be participating.

This year’s Goodwood meeting will celebrate Tom Walkinshaw Racing’s 1980s Group C Jaguars and Formula 1 cars from ‘The 72 years’, led by the Lotus 72 and include cars from 1970 to ’75.

The rally sprint format is famously remembered from the BBC’s Rally Sprint TV show that featured Murray Walker on commentary.

The 2020 Goodwood Members’ Meeting will be held on March 28-29.
