Part four of the Motor Sport Christmas gift guide with breathtaking driving experiences and essential racing gear

MSV RallyMaster

You’ll be strapped into a rear-wheel drive, 198bhp Toyota GT86 at Brands Hatch or Oulton Park with a professional rally driver instructing you through power slides, drifts and Scandinavian Flicks. If you book before December 31, you get a free 2018 BSB or BTCC ticket at any MSV venue to boot. And it has deputy editor Joe Dunn’s seal of approval.

Lapland Ice Driving

Four-time WTCC champion Yvan Muller is the ambassador for this extreme ice-driving experience, which includes two days of performance, then intensive driving on their icy renditions of Silverstone, the Nürburgring, Le Mans (Bugatti) or Paul Ricard, with a range of performance and supercars to choose from. Temperatures range from a staggering -5 to -40 degC from January to March, but you do get a discount on driving sessions.

Mercedes-Benz World AMG Experience

A Mercedes-Benz driving specialist will guide you through Mercedes’ handling circuits in an AMG vehicle at their complex in Surrey. Slide sideways through wet and dry conditions, and on their special skid pan for an hour of excitement. Mercedes offers discounts for bookings made before December 31.

RSR Nürburgring Taxi

Taxis around the Green Hell get booked up around a year in advance at the many companies offering rides in a road car. However, this particular experience allows you to become a passenger in a race-prepared BMW 235i or Porsche Cayman S in full race conditions through the combined Nürburgring circuit. RSR says that it will take just under 10 minutes, which is rapid, and it stresses that ‘you need to be fit and not scared of close racing action or the occasional sideways moment’ to partake.

Juha Kankkunen Driving Academy

Four-time WRC champion Juha Kankkunen runs a rally driving school in northern Finland, and this opportunity is so rare you may just want to save it for yourself. Either jump in a road car, your own supercar, or a rally-spec Subaru Impreza (if you’re an advanced driver) on Kankkunen’s ice circuit in northern Finland.
