Formula 1’s annual test of dedication (for European fans) returns again: the Las Vegas Grand Prix has a start time of 4am GMT to sort the obsessed from the interested.

Dedicated British fans won’t be getting much sleep, given the Friday and Saturday practice sessions start at 12.30am GMT, while qualifying also begins at 4am.

But there’s a strong incentive to set your alarm clocks early: the championship battle is approaching crunch time. With three races to go, Lando Norris leds the title race after two consecutive victories that have given him a comfortable gap to McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri in the drivers’ standings.

Max Verstappen is a distant third, but the Red Bull driver still has hope, given McLaren’s record at the Las Vegas Strip circuit. It endured one of its worst races of the year here last year, so this weekend could prove crucial in the 2025 championship.
