The Canadian Grand Prix will clash directly with the Indianapolis 500 in 2026, Formula 1 has confirmed, as it revealed next season’s schedule with racing’s governing body, the FIA.
For the third year in a row, there will be 24 races on the calendar. Imola is not on a schedule that has, as expected, two races in Spain thanks to the arrival of the Madrid street circuit, while Barcelona retains its place.
The season will again kick off in Australia on 8 March and finish with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 6 December.
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, whose contract with F1 expired in 2025, has failed to secure a new deal and so Imola will be absent from the calendar next year.
Spain will be the only country other than the United States to host two grands prix, as Barcelona still has a contract for 2026. However, F1 is yet to announce the name of the Barcelona race, as Madrid has the rights to the Spanish GP moniker from next season.
The other notable change to the calendar is the Canadian GP being moved to the 22-24 May weekend, the same date as the Indianapolis 500.
The two races will not only take place on the same day, but will also have overlapping times, creating a direct scheduling clash for the first time in history.
There will be two triple-headers next year but, unlike this season, they will take place at the end of the year, with Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi closing out the year.
